Summary day five

After the windiest day yet at the 2010 Finn Gold Cup in San Francisco, Ed Wright moves into a 13 point lead after a scoring 3-1 while nearest rivals Rafa Trujillo (ESP) scored 2-3 and Giles Scott (GBR) scored 2-5.

 

Raced nine was sailed in 16-20 knots with Wright leading Trujillo early on and Scott in hot pursuit. Scott took the lead on the first downwind and wasn't about to let it go, pulling away on the reaches to record his first line honours this week. Trujillo placed second to narrow the gap on Wright, who finished third, to just nine points.

 

Race ten was a thrilling display of endurance and power as the wind whipped up a confused sea and the downwind became an adrenaline fulled funride. Wright again led at the top mark with Trujillo in third and Scott in fourth. Gasper Vincec (SLO) took the lead on the run but Wright was having none of that and retook the lead on the beat and extended to take his fourth race win of the week. Trujillo lost a lot of ground on the first downwind and could only recover to fourth while Scott took fifth.

 

The top three are almost guaranteed medals. Tomorrow's medal race will decide the colour.

Good morning from San Francisco.

 

Sailors held on shore for wind to build. early morning fog on the bay and air is colder so we are expecting more breeze today.

Summary day four

After another two windy races, Rafa Trujillo (ESP) scoref a 1-2 to close the gap on Ed Wright (GBR) who scored 2-5 today, though they increased their lead over the rest of the fleet.

 

Race seven was led initially by Trujillo but Wright shot past on the run. Trujillo favored the middle ground on the second beat to retake the lead and held it to the finish Thomas Le Breton suffered gear failure and slipped back with Giles Scott (GBR) climbing to third.

 

Trujillo again led to the top mark in race eight with the winds topping 22 knots and a very nasty sea running. He lost the lead to defending champion Jonas Hogh Christensen (DEN) on the second beat and the Dane led until the final thrilling stages of the fast spray filled second reach when Daniel Birgmark (SWE) first sailed under Trujillo and then Hogh Christensen to win the race.

 

The final two qualification races are scheduled for Friday before Saturday's medal race.

Day three summary

Ed Wright (GBR) takes the lead at the 2010 Finn Gold Cup after another
outstanding day placing first and third in the two races. Rafa Trujillo
(ESP) won the second race of the day to climb to second, while a string of
top 10 placings leave Giles Scott (GBR) in third.

After a short postponement to allow time for the wind to clock round and
build, the first race was sailed in 10-14 knots with Ed Wright leading at
each and every mark. He extended on every leg to win by more than a minute
and a half. Jonathan Lobert (FRA) placed second with Thomas Le Breton (FRA)
recovering from a poor first beat to place third.

Race six was then sailed in 14-17 knots with Trujillo leading from start to
finish. Wright traded positions with Bjorn Allansson (SWE), Giorgio Poggi
(ITA) and Brendan Casey (AUS) before finally crossing the line in third
behind Poogi.

Wright now has 13 point lead with four more races to sail before Saturday's
medal race, while thre next four boats are separated by onlt four points

Summary of day two

After four races, Thomas Le Breton (FRA) holds the leads on equal points
with Zach Railey (USA) in second. Double race winner today Ed Wright (GBR)
is in third. The top five boats are all withinb four points of each other.

The first race started with light winds but increased to 12 knots by the top
mark and 22 knots by the second race in a typical San Francisco Day with fog
rolling between the Golden Gate and cold breeze building during the day.

Wright rounded the top mark in third and moved ahead on the downwind to lead
throughout. Race one winner Gasper Vincec (SLO) and Thomas le Breton moved
tghrough the fleet to place second and third.

The wind had really kicked in for race four with Wright leading round the
top mark from Mark Andrews (GBR). Andrews took the lead on the first
downwind leg, but Wright dug in on the next beat and took a nice lead to
extend to the finish for a second race win. Thomas Le Breton placed third
again.
